2005 Kentucky Derby ResultsWith the first big race of the Triple Crown in the books we are listing the 2005 Kentucky Derby results and payouts below. We also want to provide our brief write-up on what we thought of the race and how we see the rest of the Triple Crown playing out. If you took Giacomo, then you made quite a bit of cash and if you had an Exacta with Closing Argument, then you probably are planning a big vacation instead of reading this article.
Giacomo was a real long shot, but bettors who took that horse to win where laughing all of the way to the bank with their Kentucky Derby betting winnings. Closing Argument was another dark horse, but if you took this pony to show then you got quite the return on your investment. Afleet Alex may not have been as valuable of a wager, but he did end up taking third.
With the Kentucky Derby odds underdogs coming in at the top, the exotics paid out quite well. There couldn't have been many bettors out there who were profiting off of these bets, but if you wanted to take these with your Kentucky Derby Predictions then look at the massive payouts that you could have brought home.
The favorite was Bellamy Road, and he was in position to have a chance at winning at the turn, but wore out down the home stretch and finished up 7th. Nick Zito had five horses in the race and this 7th place finish was as good as it got for him. It looked like to us that Zito had too many horses in the race, and thus couldn't get any of them in top shape. We think you'll see the horses he trains down come Preakness time. Mike Smith was the winning jockey, a relative unkown but a solid guy who has had a nice career. A career which is now validated by a Triple Crown victory and we expect more good things out of Smith in the time to come. |
