2005 MPC Computers Bowl

Boise State takes on Boston College in the 2005 MPC Computers Bowl. Boise State got a shot of motivation after learning that their head coach Dan Hawkins would be leaving the Broncos for the Buffaloes of Colorado. He really turned this team around and it couldn’t have been that unexpected that his time to leave had come, now they will want to send him out on a good note. Our college bowl predictions see them do just that.

Boston College didn’t do too badly in their first season as an ACC conference member, but this can’t be the destination they were wanting. The Eagles had a respectable 8-3 record and finished their season on a strong note.

The Eagles success came from a defense that finished in the top 20 in the country and 10th against the rush. They only allowed 15.5 ppg even after back-to-back 30 points efforts. This defense should poise major problems for Hawkins and his Broncos.

Boise State had a down year by their standards on the offensive side of the football, but still got up to 24th in total offense and 8th in scoring. The offense put up over 43 ppg during a seven game win streak so the potential to put up a big number is obviously there.

On defense the Broncos can stop the fun but definitely not anything through the air. They were 101st in the nation against the pass, but a stellar 18th against the run, only allowing 3.4 ypc. The bright side is that they only allowed 21 points or more in 2 of their final eight games.

Boston College scored 30 or more points in 5 of their last 7 games, picking up the slack from what was a lackluster start to the season on that side of the ball. The ground game really picked up more than anything and they finished out the year with 221 rushing yards against Maryland.

The line is really moving on this game and now Boise State is a field goal favorite. Couple of trends for this one, Boise is 4-1 at home ATS this season and this is a home game even though it’s a Bowl. While the Eagles were 3-1 in games in which they started out favored by less than a TD.
