2006 Broncos Football

Get ready for the upcoming season with our 2008 Denver Broncos Predictions & Preview!

The 2006 Broncos football team is hoping to get over the edge and return the Super Bill this season.  This team lost three big names in the off-season when they chose not to resign defensive end Trevor Pryce, tight end Jeb Putzier, and running back Mike Anderson.  The team couldn't afford their contracts and with them heading into the twilights of their career so they were not real concerned with bringing them back.  The big acquisitions the team made were getting Jay Cutler in the draft to lead the new wave of Bronco football and to make sure Plummer knows that he's replaceable if he goes back to his 2004 form.  Kenard Lang should help replace Pryce on the line and Javon Walker gives the team another solid playmaker on offense.

The 2006 Broncos football team is going to want the offense to pick up where they left off as the 5th most effective yard gainers in the NFL.  Denver is going to need Jake to show that he can fit into the system and not turn the ball over, basically that last season wasn't a fluke.  He did struggle in the AFC Championship game, but everyone struggled against the Pittsburgh defense on their run through the playoffs.  He'll also be expected to groom the first rounder, Cutler.  The Broncos lost their leading rusher in Anderson, but this team has such a bundle in the backfield that they probably won't miss him a whole lot.  Tatum Bell and Ron Dayne should share most of the duties and will be a force on the team that was 2nd in the NFL in rushing yards last season.  Rod Smith is 37 and you would think his decline should start anytime, but the addition of Walker will help to take a lot of pressure off of him.  Ashley Lelie moves to the third option, but believes he can be one of the elite.  Hopefully another threat will push him over the edge.

Defensively the 2006 Broncos football team is going to have to improve their numbers against the pass, but the forced turnovers and made plays.  The line is solid with Eukan and Lang holding things down.  It seems like the Broncos have basically let the Browns develop defensive lineman and then signed them away.  This is the 4th former Brown that will be suiting up for Denver this year.  The linebacking unit is the strength of the team with Al Wislon, Ian Gold, and DJ Williams all capable of making the Pro-Bowl in any given season.  Wilson has really developed after 7 years in the league to be a great leader for the defense.  Champ Bailey leads the secondary and is a consistent Pro Bowler.  John Lynch is a hard hitting safety on this unit that's stats looked worse last year because opposing team's found themselves in so many passing situations.

Big year for the Broncos this year as expectations are high once again.  We personally see them winning the division and making the playoffs, but they are not going to earn home field advantage or even a first round bye.  This schedule is one of the toughest in the league and teams in the AFC keep getting stronger.  The Chiefs might even give them a run for their money, but we don't see a repeat of last season's successes.  The wise future wager here for the Broncos is to take the Under 10 win total at Bodog.
