2006 Browns FootballGet ready for the upcoming season with our 2008 Cleveland Browns NFL Predictions! The 2006 Browns football team will mark the second year that Romeo Crennel has been the head man, and if the team stays healthy they could surprise a few teams this season. This team isn't going to excel at any group of positions on either side of the football, but they do not have any real bad gaping holes either. The team had a lot of offseason turnover and that does not usually translate into immediate success. The offense did make some upgrades by signing Joe Jurevicius away from Seattle and LeCharles Bentley to be their new anchor on the offensive line. Defensively Crennel reunites with Willie McGinest, and Ted Washington will plug holes at nose tackle. The team went after linebackers in the draft and got a pair of good ones in Kamerion Wimbley and D'Qwell Jackson. Wimbley is very talented and could be a force on defense this year. 20% Signup Bonus when depositing via eCheck at SportsInteraction! The Charlie Frye era at quarterback beings with the 2006 Browns football team. Trent Dilfer was evidently unhappy with his role of mentor and backup so he went to the 49ers in exchange for Ken Dorsey and a 7th rounder. This is probably the weakest spot on offense with a lot of inexperience all the way around. At running back they have a real grinder in Reuben Droughns. Droughns went for 1,232 yards last season, but should be able to stay stronger this season with Lee Suggs coming off injuries and William Greene able to spell him at times. Jurevicius should join two quality receivers in Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow. Winslow hasn't seen much NFL action in two years but if he can return to his former self then he'll be one of the top 5 in the league at his position. Edwards has a lot of potential but tore his ACL last December. This could be a pretty deadly threesome if they remain healthy and Frye comes into his own. The defensive line was pretty weak last season but the 2006 Browns football team is hoping that by adding Ted Washington they can be more effective at stopping the run, which they ranked 30th in the league at last season. The team also had only 23 sacks which was worse in the league, so expect Willie McGinest to be given free reign at blitzing and wreaking havoc. He should also be a good mentor to the two rookie linebackers in Wimbley and Jackson. The team did well against the pass last season, but that was probably because team's could run out the clock on the league's worst scoring offenses and just grind their way into points. This season is going to rest on Charlie Frye. If he can come in and be effective, growing into the quarterback he at times showed he could be in the last half of the season then the Browns should be alright. They are going to need to score some points as Crennel is a defensive genius and can make things work. More than likely this team is going to be another year away from doing any damage in their division and they will probably end up in the bottom of the AFC North, thus we like the Under 6.5 wins at Bodog.
