2006 Colorado Buffaloes Football

Stay up to date with our 2007 Colorado Buffaloes football predictions!

All of the talk in Boulder about the 2006 Colorado Buffaloes football team centers around new head coach Dan Hawkins.  Hawkins is going to bring in a high scoring attack that worked wonders at Boise State, so it will be interesting to see if the Buffaloes adapt to the new scheme.  If the players work hard and trust Hawkins, this could be a good year.  Otherwise, this team won't return to their former glory until he can get some of his guys in the system.

There isn't a top choice at quarterback with juniors Brian White and Bernard Jackson both about equal in talent.  One of these guys is going to have to step up and execute, but do not plan on seeing any big things out of this tandem early in the year.  At running back the team is a little more solidified with Hugh Charles.  He can catch passes and has pretty good speed.  At wide receiver they are led by Patrick Williams, a very talented sophomore who will have junior Dusty Sprague to help take some pressure off.  The good news for the offense is the line returns mostly in tact and has enough talent to help the team move the ball.

Defense was a strength for this team last year, especially against the run.  The line has a lot of youth and inexperience, it'll be up to how fast they gel together as to how good Colorado can be.  The linebackers are talented and should once again be the strength of the defense, which will allow the team to be formidable against the rush.  The secondary has been hurt by decimated by injuries and a suspension, which could lead to problems against passing teams.

The Buffaloes aren't going to get past the .500 mark this season and the Big 12 is going to be tough on them.  They must go to Georgia, Oklahoma, and Nebraska with a rivalry game against Colorado State early.  Expect this to be a year of transition for the Buffs.
