2006 Dolphins Football

After a solid finish to least season, fans this year are expecting a lot out of 2006 Dolphins football.  The team lost a lot of aging big name stars from a year ago, but they refilled their roster nicely.  The biggest losses were Ricky Williams to a suspension over the NFL's drug use policy, Junior Seau at linebacker, Sam Madison - a guy who may go down as one of the best cornerbacks in Dolphins history, and Gus Frerotte who left for the St. Louis Rams with former offensive coordinator Scott Linehan.  The biggest fish that landed for the Dolphins was Daunte Culpepper.  If this guy can recover his former touch he is going to find himself with a Randy Moss like wide receiver in Chris Chambers, and this offense will be an explosive one.  The other two major incomers are Will Allen at cornerback and Joey Harrington from Detroit to back up Culpepper in case he isn't at full strength to start the year.

2006 Dolphins football is going to have their offensive hopes hinging on Culpepper's full and speedy recovery.  All signs are pointing to him being ready to go by the beginning of the year and if that is the case this could be a high scoring unit even without Ricky Williams.  Daunte is hoping to finally be the heir apparent to the throne that was left under center when Marino retired after the 1999 season.  He struggled last year before going down to his knee injury, but has put up some big numbers in years past when he was surrounded by talent.  He'll definitely have that in Chris Chambers, who was absolutely amazing during the Dolphins six-game winning streak to close out the season.  He caught 43 passes for 620 yards and 6 touchdowns during that stretch.  The other receivers are just ok, but at tight end they have a solid pass catcher in Randy McMichael who will provide another solid option.  The second year is normally a solid year for NFL running backs, and the Dolphins are hoping that Ronnie Brown can build on the success of last season.  He put up decent numbers last season, and didn't suffer a lot of wear and tear while sharing time with Ricky Williams.

Coach Nick Saban is a defensive minded coach, and look for even better production out of this unit as both coach and players have a year of experience under their belts.  the 2006 Dolphins football team will also have Dom Capers as a defensive coordinator, who was the head coach of the Houston Texans for the past four seasons, bringing only more experience to this coaching staff.  The team had no problems getting to the quarterback last year when racking up 48 sacks and with defensive ends like Jason Taylor, Vonnie Holliday, and Kevin Carter we do not see them having any problems with the pass rush again this year.  Zach Thomas should continue to lead the defense from the linebacker position and Channing Crowder is showing that he can be a force on the field. The secondary is the weak spot of this unit with Will Poole and Will Allen starting at the cornerback positions, but safety is up in the air.

The Dolphins get to start out with Buffalo and Tennessee at home and then on the road at Houston.  If they can get off to a 3-0 start then they could be a real force to deal with, especially with a rather soft schedule that includes the AFC East and NFC North.  We see them making a splash by finally returning to the playoffs but do not yet have enough fire power to contend for the AFC Championship.  There isn't a strong bet here with their win total, but after considering our options, 8-8 is more likely than 10-6 so go with the Under 9 at Bodog.
