2006 Eagles Football
After the worst season under head coach
Andy Reid, the 2006 Eagles football team is hoping
to rebound and regain their former dominance.
Philadelphia got rid of the team-wrecker Terrell Owens,
but they lost him to a division rival which could come
back to hurt them even more. The team needed to get
their edge back on defense and they should be helped by
the acquisition of Darren Howard of the Saints and by
getting Brodrick Bunkley from Florida State. When
McNabb went down last season, the Eagles were left with a
big void under center. This year's team will at
least have a former Pro Bowler and reliable veteran in
Jeff Garcia. To help fill the Owens void the team
got Jabar Gaffney from Houston and Matt Schobel from
Cincinnati.

The 2006 Eagles football team will hope
the offense can get back on track as long as McNabb is
healthy. McNabb was one of the best in the league up
until last year, but questions still remain as to whether
he can win the big games for him, especially after being
called out by Owens last year. The team was 28th in
rushing last season due to Reid's pass only offense, more
balance will be needed in order to get more points on the
board. Brian Westbrook and Ryan Moats are small, so
can they handle a large workload? This is one of the
reasons the Eagles were passing every down, but somebody
is going to have to step up and carry the ball once in
awhile. It's hard to look at this year's batch of
receivers without noticing a large gap left by Owens.
The team was great before him even without a star, and
they'll have to be again. Reggie Brown was dangerous
as a rookie last season, and will need to keep improving
if the team is going to make the playoffs.
The defense should be above average this
season even though last year they ranked 27th in points
allowed and 23rd in total defense. The defensive end
position should be a strength with Jevon Kearse and newly
added Darren Howard attacking quarterbacks. The
tackle position has been focused on in the draft and these
youngsters should provide a nice set of run-stuffers for
now and the future. At linebacker a couple of
players left only to return in Shawn Barber and Jeremiah
Trotter. Both players are going to need to play big.
The secondary is strong with Brian Dawkins at safety and
Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard at the corner positions.
There is possibly for some Pro Bowl appearances there if
the guys can stay healthy and get a strong pass rush out
of the front seven.
We feel that the Eagles are a strong
candidate for a wild card spot this season, but they'll
basically be in the race with division rivals in the
Giants and Redskins. These games are going to be
super important this season, and last year Philly didn't
win a single game against the NFC East. The reason
we like Philly is the great start they can get off to with
games at Houston, San Fran, and New Orleans with home
matchups against the Giants, Packers, and Cowboys to start
the year. If they can get to 4-2 or even 5-1, the
team's confidence will be restored and we'll be feeling
good about the Over 8.5 wins bet we placed at
Bookmaker.
