2006 Giants Football
Eli Manning is going to determine how the 2006 Giants
football team performs this season. He had a
tale of two seasons last year when the team started out
6-2 and Manning looked brilliant, then when he looked
confused and the team finished 5-4 when he looked lost out
there. The team should help him out with a better
defense behind him as they added LaVar Arrington from
Washington and Brandon Short from Carolina to help improve
their line backer play over Barrett Green and Nick Greisen.
The secondary will also have plenty of new faces as the
Giants got Sam Madison from Miami and R.W. McQuarters from
the Detroit Lions at the cornerback position while losing
Will Allen to the Dolphins. Will Demps from
Baltimore is an upgrade over Brent Alexander.

Can Eli Manning ever be as good as his brother? That
is the million dollar question, but the Giants are not
expressing any doubts whatsoever. He played well at
the beginning of last season and will have more talent
around him this year to help ease the improvement process.
Tiki Barber has become an elite running back and is like a
fine wine which only gets better with age. He'll
handle a large load again this season and it'll be
interesting to see if he can match last season's big
numbers. There are going to be more than enough
options for Manning to use this year with Plaxico Burress
and Amani Toomer providing consistent play and Tim Carter
and Sinorice Moss being two of the fastest players in
football. Of course you can't stop with these four
as New York has one of the top targets at tight end in the
game with Jeremy Shockey. His health is important to
the team, especially when the team gets down to the red
zone.
The 2006 Giants football team has the best defense end
starts in the game, and maybe the worst starting tackles.
This makes for an interesting makeup on the line, at least
Michael Stahan and Osi Umenyiora have each other to absorb
some of the others double teams. The linebackers are
capable as long as they can stay healthy, as all three
starters have had problems in recent seasons.
Arrington has the potential, but the last two seasons he
hasn't been on the field long enough to showcase his
abilities. Carlos Emmons and Antonio Pierce have had
the same problems so this group's health may be a key
factor in the Giants season. The secondary is the
weakest part of the defense even with the additions of
Madison, who is entering his 10th season in the league,
and McQuarters, who should be the nickel back. Demps
is a worthy safety, but is coming off a torn ACL last
season so will he be as willing to make the hard hits he
became known for in Baltimore?
A lot of question marks on this team with Manning, the
injury-plagued defense, and an improving NFC East.
With Philadelphia rebounding and Dallas adding some big
names, this is going to be a disappointment year for
Giants fans. We see a close to .500 record and a
post-season spent sitting at home watching their division
rivals battle things out in the playoffs. We are
betting this future at
