2006 Kansas State Wildcats Football

Now take a look at our 2008 Kansas State Football Predictions!

Even before last season people were talking about how the 2006 Kansas State Wildcats football team would be the right mix of talent and experience.  The problem is that a lot of those young players were not as good as the hype coming in and we are expecting another down season in Manhattan.  Bill Snyder is gone and Ron Prince is in, but can this influx of youth be enough to get things going in the right direction?

Ron Prince was the offensive coordinator at Virginia last season before taking over for Bill Snyder, and he plans on putting in the West Coast offense.  There are a bunch of guys who can step in at quarterback with the front runners being Allan Evridge and Dylan Meier.  Whoever gets the nod is going to have to play well and realize that their job is not going to be secure at all during the season.  Running back is another position with depth and Thomas Clayton should be backed up by Carlos Asup, James Johnson, and Parrish Fisher.  At wide receiver the team has three guys that are pretty talented in junior Jordy Nelson and seniors Jermaine Moreira and Yamon Figurs.

When Kansas State made their run at being a national powerhouse, defense was the name of the game.  The team hopes to return to those days this year with eight returning starters.  The defensive line did not do a good job of getting to the passer last year and it doesn't seem like things are going to be much better this year.  Brandon Archer at strong side linebacker is a candidate for an all Big 12 team spot, and will have a couple of seniors in Maurice Mack and Zach Diles to help patrol sideline to sideline.  If Marcus Watts can come back from a hip injury, he'll be a force at free safety.  The only other real talent in the secondary is with Justin McKinney, the junior corner.

Three easy games to start the season with Illinois State, Florida Atlantic, and Marshall will get the hopes up in Manhattan early, but it'll be back to reality when Louisville comes into town on September 23rd.  The team is going to have to win at Baylor and at home against Oklahoma State in the next two weeks if they hope to turn this season around.  If they can start 5-1, the team may be poised for a miraculous season, but our thoughts are that they will struggled to close the season.
