2006 LSU Tigers Football Picks & Predictions
Les Miles proved last year he is more than capable of replacing Nick Saban, now with our college football predictions we see the 2006 LSU Tigers football team needs to overcome a tough schedule to contend for the SEC Title. The Tigers are going to have to travel to Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee which could prove to be too tough of a burden for them to overcome. One thing is for certain, this is going to be one of the most talented teams in the SEC and nation. Get free football picks on this team and others from our expert handicappers each week.
Junior JaMarcus Russell is coming off an injury and might not be ready to start the season, but if that is the case then the team is in capable hands with Matt Flynn. Flynn was the hero of last season’s 40-3 stomping of Miami in the Peach Bowl, but Russell brings the double threat when healthy. At tailback health is the main issue with Alley Broussard and Justin Vincent both missing all of the spring with knee injuries. If either or both of these two can recover, the team will have a fierce ground attack. Dwayne Brown, Craig Davis, and Early Doucet make up one of the best receiving corps in the SEC, and should give whoever is at quarterback easy targets to hit.
The Tigers have done a great job recruiting on defense, so when they lose big names year after year to the NFL they have more than capable replacements stepping right in. Chase Pittman at defensive end is the one big name to watch out for this year. At linebacker Ali Highsmith is the only holdover, and the team is hoping that Luke Sanders and Darry Beckwith can step in and help shore up some holes left by graduation. The secondary is going to be one of the best in the nation this year with LaRon Landry and Jessie Daniels returning for their fourth seasons and Chevis Jackson is a very talented corner. It will be tough to air it out against LSU this year.
This team is talented enough to do some damage, but those three tough games at Auburn, at Florida, and at Tennessee will be a challenge to overcome. The team should be able to beat Tennessee and the game at Auburn will decide the West. If LSU doesn’t have a hiccup somewhere they shouldn’t, then expect them to reach the ten win plateau and contend for the conference title.
