2006 Mississippi State Football Picks & Predictions
Sylvester Croom knows that his 2006 Mississippi State football team better win games or his job may be at stake. He’s had two years of losing and to be honest this year doesn’t look very promising either with our NCAA football predictions. The team’s defense returns nine starters from a year ago and should be poised to be above average again this year, but the Bulldogs ranked 113th in offense last year without much talent returning this year. Let this year be the best yet for your college football betting by trusting in the NCAA football picks offered by our experts.
The West Coast offense this year will be in the hands of sophomore Michael Henig, who needs to prove he has an understanding quickly in order to get this offense moving. Henig will have two receivers with talent in Tony Burks and converted quarterback Omarr Conner. The passing game was weak last year and these three are going to be responsible for turning around the 109th ranked passing offense. On the ground Mississippi State will have to rely on a committee of running back with Brandon Thornton and Derek Ambrose. The team has a pair of capable backups as well, making this position one of the deepest on the team. The defense will be the strength of this team once again with a couple talented players trying to stop the ball on the line with Deljuan Robinson and Andrew Powell. They need to continue to stuff the run up the middle and hope the ends can get some sort of pass rush on opposing quarterbacks. At linebacker Quinton Culberson is solid, but the other two starters are unproven. If this team is going to get to the next level they are going to have to produce past expectations. In the secondary, cornerback David Heard is talented as is free safety Jeramie Johnson, but some more playmakers are going to have to fill in to help stop opposing passers.
The first game of the year against South Carolina is going to go a long way to determining the success of the season. They can get wins in weeks 3, 4, and 7 against Tulane, UAB and Jacksonville State, but then the grueling SEC schedule begins. Kentucky is going to be the Bulldogs best chance at a conference victory, with a rivalry game against Ole Miss being the other chance the last week of the season. Getting to .500 and a bowl is probably going to be out of reach again this year.
