2006 Nebraska Cornhuskers FootballNow take a look at our 2008 Nebraska Football Predictions! After finishing with three big wins against solid opponents, the 2006 Nebraska Cornhuskers football team is going to have to carry that success over to the new season. Nebraska is a school that thrives on it's football tradition, and these last few years out of the national limelight is starting to wear on the fans. Bill Callahan has recruited a lot of junior college transfers in order to win as quickly as possible, and this is the year that he needs to do just that. Callahan found the quarterback to man his offense last year in transfer Zac Taylor. The Cornhuskers have never been a passing team, but Taylor pretty much set every record there was with his 2,653 yards and 19 touchdowns. He'll have most of his receivers back from a year ago, and the return of Matt Herian at tight end will give him plenty of help. Last year this team ranked near the bottom of division I in running the ball, and there are questions at running back again this year. The line is going to have to break in a lot of new faces, but if they do then this team should win the Big 12 North.
The Cornhuskers were not bad on defense last year, but they should be improved this year. They have a solid front seven led by defensive end Adam Carriker and middle linebacker Corey McKeon. The Blackshirts did lead the nation in sacks last year with 50 and that kind of pressure should lead to interceptions for returning corners, Cortney Grixby, Zack Bowman, and strong safety Tierre Green. The schedule is gruelling this year for Big Red as they have to go to USC on September 16th, at Iowa State on October 7th, take on Texas at home on October 21st, and visit the Aggies on November 11th. This team is talented enough to win the Big 12 North, and they have a solid shot at winning more than 8.5 games. Get the latest updates about Nebraska football here.
