2006 Ole Miss Predictions & Free Football Picks
There is reason for a little optimism when making your college football predictions for the 2006 Ole Miss football team as they signed junior Brent Shaeffer, the former Tennessee Vols starter. Of course getting anyone would bring hope after this year ranked 115th last year in scoring and put the ball in the end zone only 15 times. The defense was better, but if this team is going to win this year then they are going to have to spend some time off the field while the offense contributes. A lot of schools were interested in Schaeffer after he transferred from Tennessee in 2004 to go to College of the Sequoias in California, but he wanted back in the SEC. He had the talent to start over Ainge his freshman year, but he’s going to have to get some help from what was one of the worst lines in college football last season. He also isn’t going to have a lot of talent at receiver to give him any help, as the unit doesn’t have a lot of playing time. At running back he will get a boost when BenJarvus Green-Ellis takes the field. He will be playing his first season after transferring from Indiana and is a powerful, bruising back that will pick up yards after the first hit. Mico McSwain will give a nice little mix-up with his blazing speed. Sign up for our college football picks to give you the best chance of beating the football odds each week.
Patrick Willis is the leader of this defense playing at middle linebacker and he’ll be called upon to make more big plays this season on a unit that only returns five starters. The front four was decimated by graduation and there is a definite weakness at tackle. The secondary is a team strength with the hard hitting Jamarca Sanford at strong safety and four year starters Charles Clark at free safety and Trumaine McBride at the corner spot.
Ole Miss can expect around five wins this season with victories coming at home against Memphis, Vanderbilt, Northwestern State, Mississippi State, and at Kentucky. The game against the Wildcats might determine if this season is a success or not because a loss there in the third week of the season could get hopes down quickly. Don’t expect too much out of Ole Miss this year and you just might not be let down.
