2006 Panthers FootballView our 2008 Carolina Panthers Predictions & NFL Picks! Expectations are so high for the 2006 Panthers football team that we have almost no doubts that the season is going to end in disappointment. The team lost a pair of cornerbacks in Ricky Manning and Dante Wesley to the Chicago Bears, but had depth with Chris Gamble, Ken Lucas, and with the acquisition of Reggie Howard from Miami. The team is more focused on the stopping the run than the pass anyway. The loss that may be felt the most is Will Witherspoon who was probably the best linebacker the team had. There were plenty of additions though that should make the team better than the one that fell a game short of last year's Super Bowl. Keyshawn Johnson will help balance the Steve Smith passing attack and rookie DeAngelo Williams provides some insurance for the often injured DeShaun Foster. Adding M'ake Kemoeatu from Baltimore will provide a nice run stuffer to pair with the 335 pound Kris Jenkins.
If it's offense you are looking for then you should see plenty with the 2006 Panthers football team. Jake Delhomme made his first Pro Bowl appearance last season thanks in large part to Smith's amazing season and doesn't make a whole lot of mistakes. At running back the organization is convinced that DeShaun Foster is their man, but we have our doubts personally. He has never gained more than 1,000 yards in a season and frequently gets injured, but that may be why they draft Williams with their first selection. He is very similar skill wise to Foster but hopefully he can be more durable. At receiver the Panthers have one of the game's best, but it would be unrealistic to think that Steve Smith is going to have a repeat of last season. That may because they have more threats this season with Johnson coming in as a great possession style receiver. The defense should be solid once again for the 2006 Panthers football team. Julius Peppers and Mike Rucker are both defensive ends that are going to cause problems for the opposing team's offensive line. Peppers has average more than 10 sacks per year over his first four in the league and Rucker then takes advantage of the opportunities presented by the attention Peppers draws. The linebackers are the weakest link, especially since their best in Witherspoon left in free agency. Dan Morgan is above average at middle linebacker, but questions remain on the outside with Thomas Davis and Na'il Diggs. Chris Gamble from Ohio State is one of the best young cornerbacks in the league and Ken Lucas is a threat to make the Pro Bowl on a yearly basis. Free safety Mike Minter is getting up there in age, but creates a nice veteran presence in a young secondary. Everyone is talking about this team being the best in the NFC, but there are a number of holes and that is leading us to think they are over-rated. There division is one of the toughest in the NFL with Tampa Bay and Atlanta always breathing down their necks. Last year the Panthers ran out of gas when it came down to the NFC Championship game, and they'll do the same again this year. If you are looking to bet their win total, the team is most likely to see 9 wins than 11, so we like the Under 10 bet at Bookmaker. |
