2006 Redskins FootballNow read what we think in our 2008 Washington Redskins NFL Predictions & Season Preview! Now with the most expensive coaching staff in NFL history, the 2006 Redskins football team wants to see results from the spending. The biggest splash made with the team might be when they hired offensive coordinator Al Saunders to head the offense, pairing him with defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. There are a couple of big names coming in at wide receiver with Brandon Lloyd and Antwaan Randle El providing speed to go with Santana Moss's big time playmaking abilities. The team's big loss on offense was with Patrick Ramsey, who never quite fit in with Coach Joe Gibbs, but gave the team a reliable backup to Brunell. Defensively the Redskins could miss LaVar Arrington, but he was injury riddled and struggled the past two seasons. The new wave of talent to take over will be Andre Carter at defensive end from the 49ers and Adam Archuleta at strong safety from the St. Louis Rams.
The quarterback position is the weak spot of the offense with Brunell entering his 13th season. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes but he isn't the player he once was with a lack of mobility and arm strength, two of his former strengths. The running back position is solidified with one of the best in the game. Clinton Portis didn't have a great 2004, but rebounded with 1,516 yards last season and should be poised to continue his successes this season with a reliance on the running game. Santana Moss was dangerous last season for the Redskins, and he should be more potent this year with Saunders making use of him and new addition Antwaan Randle El. The depth alone with help keep double teams off of Moss. Gregg Williams made some strides with his defense last year, moving them up to 9th in the league, but in the playoffs is where they really shined. This year the addition of Andre Carter should help the team improve their pass rush, as the team ranked 20th in the NFL last season in sacks. The linebacking group is weakened without Arrington, but it should allow Marcus Washington and Antonio Pierce to showcase their skills a little more this season. The secondary is going to be strong this year, especially at safety where they will have Archuleta and Sean Taylor. Shawn Springs and Carlos Rogers are both talented at the cornerback position, and these four will prove to be a tough match up for almost any other team in the league. It is up for debate on whether the Redskins can return to the playoffs this season, but we believe they can. We do not like the chances of this team seeing 10 wins, more likely it'll end up at 9 or even 8. The best value is to go with Under 9 wins at Bookmaker for +128 juice. The first half of the season is going to be tough schedule wise, so they just need to keep in the hunt when it softens up after their bye in Week 8.
