2006 Texas A&M Football Picks & Predictions
A very favorable schedule could propel the 2006 Texas A&M Aggies football team to a major bowl this post-season. The team had to deal with a lot of injuries in 2005 and as a result lost their last 4 games, embarrassing losses to two weaker teams, but strong showings against Oklahoma and Texas. They get a couple cupcakes to start the year, and with our college football predictions we feel like that should get both sides of the ball clicking before heading into the meat of the schedule.
Reggie McNeal’s graduation will scare some away from this team, but sophomore Stephen McGee is a very talented replacement. This team was 17th in total offense last year and should continue to produce this season. The team has a deep and talented group of backs to run the ball and they also add a very talented freshman in Mike Goodson. The receiver position was decimated by injury last year, but the good news for the new starting quarterback is that a great group is healthy to start this season.
The defense was horrible for the Aggies last season as the pass defense ranked last in the nation. The secondary is full of potential this season to shore things up with safety Japhus Brown returning to full strength and with a couple of quick corners in Marquis Carpenter and Danny Gorrer. The front seven is going to have to produce though and take some time away from opposing quarterbacks. The bad news is that there are only three returning starters in that group. It’s sink or swim time for a lot of these guys.
This team starts out with four games they should win, but then they have a couple of potential touch matchups at home against Texas Tech and then at Kansas. Then to close the year out in November the team has to face Oklahoma, Nebraska, and at Texas. Those are five games that could do either way and them losing at least 4 of them seems more likely than them winning 2. I’d go with the under.
Odds to win the national title: +11000
Over/Under win Totals: Over 8.5 +102/Under 8.5 -118
