2006 Titans Football

Get ready for the season with our 2008 Tennessee Titans Predictions & Preview!

The 2006 Titans football team better not have another down season, or else Jeff Fisher and his staff will be looking for new jobs in 2007.  The last two years have been horrendous for Tennessee after enjoying a lot of success early in the new millenium.  This year there is a lot of hope with the draft class in getting Vince Young and LenDale White.  Stephen Tulloch should make an immediate impact at the line backer position.  The loss of Steve McNair is going to hurt the team and have the fans screaming for Vince probably before he is ready.  Billy Volek is going to need to produce to give Young some time to learn.  The Titans also made nice editions with Safety Chris Hope from Pittsburgh and Kevin Mawae from the Jets.  Mawae used to be one of the top centers in the game and the Titans are hoping he can help groom some on their young line.  The team also got David Givens from the Patriots, which may hurt New England more than it's going to help Tennessee.

Offensively the 2006 Titans football team is going to have to deal with the loss of McNair first and foremost.  Billy Volek has been good at times but management is concerned about his ability to produce in the starting role for an entire season.  Matt Mauck, the second year player out of LSU, has been improving nicely and could see some time in the role as everyone in the organization wants to give Young a chance to acquire some knowledge.  Travis Henry and Chris Brown were supposed to be a scary tandem, kind of like Henry was supposed to be with McGahee in Buffalo but neither deal panned out.  Last season both backs struggled due to injuries, but they should remain healthier this year with a great bruising short yardage runner in LenDale White coming in for the tough yards.  Givens is going to give the Titans a serious threat at wide receiver, and open things wide open for Drew Bennett.  The team has a solid group of guys contending for the third receiver spot, but there isn't a real strong frontrunner.

Defensively the 2006 Titans football team should be a little bit better than last year's team that finished 29th in the league allowing 26.3 points per game.  The line is efficient but not great.  They have a couple of big tackles in Haynesworth and Starks that are sufficent in plugging holes, and the ends are set with two guys who are developing quickly in Vanden Bosch and LaBoy.  They need to keep opposing blockers off what is a pretty good linebacking core led by Keith Bullock.  The team added David Thornton in the off-season to get someone else to roam around making tackles.  Hope better make a difference in the secondary since it was ugly last season.  Pacman Jones and Reynaldo Hill got time in as rookies last year and the Titans better hope that they learned from that experience.

Nobody is going to be talking playoffs for the 2006 Titans football team unless they have a disproportionate view on life.  The schedule is pretty difficult especially with Indy and Jacksonville twice and the NFC East on the other side.  The Titans are going to be a year or two off from being a squad to contend with, this year the expectations should be low as a losing season is probable, but winning more than 5 games is likely, take the Over at Bookmaker.
