2007 AFC Predictions & NFL Picks
It’s been no secret that the NFC has taken a backseat to the AFC in recent years, and our NFL predictions on the 2007 AFC will show you that this season will be no different. Let’s take a division by division break down of each team in order to find out who is going to make the playoffs, then who is going to do the most damage when they get there.
Let’s start with the AFC East since it’s the easiest division to predict. The New England Patriots are the best team in football and will be hands down better than any other team in the division. The Jets had a great run last year, but it will be tough to engineer the same kind of success when all of your opponents know you were in the playoffs a year ago. They will fall back slightly this year and miss out on the playoffs. Miami would be doing great if they got to .500, but it’s going to be a few years before they can rebuild and get back in the hunt. The Bills lost a lot from a year ago, and that team wasn’t any good, expect them to be the bottom feeder here.
Over in the AFC North we like the Baltimore Ravens. The team added Willis McGahee to give it more of threat in the backfield as Jamal Lewis had shown some wear and tear last year. This team needs to stay healthy and with their years getting up there, but there will be a sense of urgency with this squad. The Steelers will get back to the playoffs this year. Last year the team had distractions following them around and didn’t look as hungry coming off their Super Bowl win, this year will be different. Cincinnati is a team that has plenty of talent, but off the field distractions have hurt the team. This will be a team fighting for the playoffs, but we don’t see them making it. The Browns are going to be better than a handful of teams this year, but still the worst in the division.
When looking at the AFC South there will be plenty of people taking the Colts, but we are going with Jacksonville. The Jags have questions, there is no doubt about that, but their running game and stout defense will lead them to the division title. Indianapolis lost a lot from a year ago, and will have to deal with losing their edge after a Super Bowl win. Tennessee is going to be worse than they were last year, why did they get rid of every weapon Vince Young had? Houston is trying to rebuild with Matt Schaub taking over for David Carr, but it’s going to be a few years before this team comes out of the cellar.
The AFC West is going to be an interesting fight this year, but San Diego is far and away the team with superior talent. Even without most of last year’s coaching staff, Tomlinson and this loaded defense will be more than enough to guide them to the division title. Denver has high expectations for Jay Cutler and company, plus they have added a weapon with Travis Henry. The problem is that this year they will once again just miss out on the playoffs. Kansas City is going to get worse before they get better, as they wanted to go young. This isn’t going to be there year. Oakland has a 32-year-old coach who is going to try to turn things around. It sure won’t be this year.
