2007 Arkansas Basketball Predictions & Season
Preview
The times they are a
changing in Fayetteville.
After an off-season full of turmoil,
John Pelphrey comes in looking to
build off Stan Heath's recent spurts
to get this team back over the top
and competing late in NCAA
tournaments. Our 2007
Arkansas college basketball
predictions & season preview
think that this year will be a great
year for Hogs fans as Pelphrey is
inheriting a team with plenty of
talent and is capable of playing
past the first weekend of the
tournament this year. We think
the team will probably win the SEC
West, and these seniors are looking
to bring the school their first
tournament win since 1999.

The Hogs have the defending SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 7'0" center
Steven Hill. He can dominate the paint, but needs to grab a few more
boards this season. He'll also need to adjust to the high octane offense
that Pelphrey wants to install. Hill will hold down the fort on defense,
allowing the guards to be aggressive because if their man gets by them, he'll be
there to clean up the mess. Darian Townes is another tall, athletic force
who does better on offense, and he'll be counted on to contribute double digits
in points this year. Charles Thomas, Vincent Hunter, and Michael
Washington will all see playing time down low, giving the Hogs the depth to run
the big guys up and down the floor and keep them rested with breaks. Patrick
Beverley was the league's Freshman of the Year and should be poised for a huge
sophomore campaign with his ability to dive, shoot, and defend. He is a
team leader whose toughness seems to infect his team mates, which is something
the Hogs have been missing since the glory days of Corliss Williamson in the
90's. In order to get the tempo up from last year though the point guard
play needs to improve. Gary Ervin is not that consistent and still makes a
lot of mistakes. Sonny Weems is a great fit for a fast pace at small
forward and should be in line for a good season, but depth is an issue here so
conditioning might be key. We are looking for good things this year with
Arkansas and our college basketball
picks. This is a team that could go under the radar, and that means
some early chances with the college
basketball odds not showing them enough credit as they deserve. If you
want some value, then you might find it in the Razorbacks early in the season,
but if you really want to win big with your
college basketball betting this
year then you'll need to get signed up with Jimmy Boyd's premium picks packages.
