The defense lost a lot from a year ago, but the front seven should be ready to move along just fine. It’s the secondary that we are currently worried about. Free safety Michael Grant had a serious knee injury last year and without Chris Houston, the team won’t be able to play nearly as much man coverage as a year ago. Up front defensive end Antwain Robinson is going to be getting post-season honors if his progress continues, and Ernest Mitchell was able at tackle a year ago. Freddie Fairchild is the best linebacker of the group and is as tough as they come. This guy blew out a knee in a game last season and kept on playing.
The difference between a decent season and a great one will be how the passing game develops and if the defense can replace the losses they sustained. McFadden and Jones will give Arkansas plenty of chances to score. The team starts out with a test when they go to Alabama then gets Auburn and South Carolina on their home turf. Those are three big games when the team has to travel to both Tennessee and LSU, games we have to think the team will be significant underdogs in.
