2007 Auburn Basketball Predictions & Season Preview

There are a lot of jokes about this school when it comes to basketball, but our 2007 Auburn predictions and season preview show that this team is ready to make a jump out of the bottom of the SEC.  Jeff Lebo's team returns his top seven scorers from a season ago and even though the Tigers were just one of two SEC teams not to play a post-season game, they did get to 17-15 which was their first winning record since 2003.  The school also seems to be making more of a commitment to the program by building a $92.5 million dollar arena.  The recruits are starting to come in, so a good season and an appearance in at least the NIT will help get this program rolling in the right direction.

Quan Powell had 12 ppg and 5.3 rebounds per game last season and should be on plenty of highlight reels again this season.  He isn't really powerful down low, but is skilled at getting around defenders and can also shoot the rock from the outside, extending the floor.  Josh Dollard is also capable of shooting from the outside, giving this team a bunch of deep threats in the front court alone.  Dollard was good for 12.5 points and seven rebounds per game as he seemed to get better and better each week.  The team is athletic, but not very tall.  Korvotney Barber is only 6'7" and will most likely be thrown in at center.  There isn't a lot of depth here either as the backups are raw, but could develop as the season progresses.

DeWayne Reed and Quantez Robertson can both handle the ball and will act like joint point guards out there.  Robertson will slide to shooting guard which will allow him to get more involved with scoring.  The guard position is pretty deep with Frank Tolbert and Rasheem Barrett both putting up double digit point totals on average.  You'll see some playing time spread around as these guys can all shoot and pass the ball well.
