The Auburn offense needs to get things back going again after a tough season a year ago. Brandon Cox is back to full health, and he figures a big part in how far Auburn can go in the SEC West and nation. He has almost 5,000 career passing yards and the experience to lead this team as far as possible. At running back there is a lot of talent led by Brad Lester. Ben Tate should also get a fair share of the carries to keep things fresh. Rod Smith had 26 catches and almost 500 yards receiving, and a couple of young guys will have a chance to step up and play as well. The line is almost a complete makeover from a season ago, but there is experience there.
The defense ranked 7th in scoring last season and brought back plenty of playmakers to have the same successes this year. Quentin Groves is an NFL caliber end who wants to become better against the run this season and Sen’Derrick Marks, even though he’s only a sophomore, has the same giant upside as Groves. The secondary has three of four starters back from a year ago, a unit which performed extremely well. Tray Blackmon has had trouble staying on the field, but if he gets back then this linebacking corps should help to improve the weak defensive numbers they put up against the run last year.
You have to feel bad for Auburn since they have to head to Florida, Arkansas, and Georgia, but last year they lost a couple of big games at home which cost them an SEC title game appearance. The team has an easy home schedule except for the last game of the year when Alabama visits, so we are expecting a 9-3 season, but with all three losses coming in conference play a trip to the Georgia Dome seems unlikely.
