2007 Belmont Stakes Predictions

If Street Sense’s nose would have been the one that won at the Preakness Stakes, we could expect him to get the large majority of the action as horse racing enthusiasts would be pulling for a rare triple crown winner. Perhaps a little luster has been lost with Curlin upsetting Street, but you can still shine at the 139th Belmont Stakes with Jimmy Boyd’s 2007 Belmont Stakes predictions

I don’t see any horses with a serious shot at breaking up the stranglehold that Street Sense, Curlin, and Hard Spun have has on Triple Crown races this year. There are always those who side with Todd Pletcher horses, but that hasn’t paid off ever in Triple Crown events. Circular Quay may be the son of Thunder Gulch who won the Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes in 1995, but his fifth place showing in the Derby and his sixth place finish in the Preakness Stakes tell me he isn’t ready to follow in his father’s footsteps. Long Shot lover’s may pounce here, but I don’t see it paying off.

I think it’s safe to say that this is once again going to be a three horse race. Street Sense, Curlin, and Hard Spun are clearly the top horses this season. With Belmont Park presenting us with the longest track of the three races, you may want to look to Street Sense this weekend. It was the lengthy track that gave him enough time to win with his finishing kick in this year’s Kentucky Derby and perhaps the shorter Pimlico race course cost him the win in the Preakness Stakes. A return to a lengthy track could be just what the doctor ordered for Street Sense and his team.

Curlin supporters don’t buy the “Street ran out of street” talk. They feel their horses finishing kick is every bit as deadly as Street’s. Curlin’s only loss in his 5 race career was his third place finish at this year’s Kentucky Derby. He is a money horse for sure and will cash a show bet here with no problem for you conservative bettors.

People are starting to leave Hard Spun’s corner after a disappointing third place finish in the Preakness Stakes. I might just be leaning along those same lines. There’s no doubt this horse is fast, but he doesn’t seem to have the endurance that these bigger tracks call for. His chance to win a big race was likely at the Preakness and he didn’t get the job done.

Tiago could be the dark horse if there’s going to be one to swoop in and steal away some thunder from the favorites. He is the half brother of 2005 Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo. He is trained and ridden by the same jockey as his brother as well. This could be a big win team yet again that bettors will be getting great value for.
