2007 Big Ten Basketball Predictions

One of the best conferences in the nation, our 2007 Big Ten basketball predictions show once again why these teams from the Midwest will be among those in the national spotlight.  There are some solid teams here with tons of senior experience, plus an influx of some big name talent who plan on only being here one year before bolting to the NBA.  A few new coaches will make their debut with Tubby Smith, John Beilein, and Todd Lickliter hoping to turn things around quickly.

We think the Indiana Hoosiers are in the best position to take home the Big Ten title.  The team is hoping Eric Gordon and his one year in red will bring a Final Four to Bloomington like Greg Oden did for the Buckeyes a year ago.

Drew Neitzel will be ready to have a big senior year for Michigan State, and we think that's going to be good enough for them to garner 12 or 13 league wins and a second seed in the conference tournament.

Ohio State might not have a lot of their big names from last year's championship game, but Thad Matta is recruiting great kids year after year to keep the Buckeyes are perennial contender on the national scene.

You won't find a tougher pre-season schedule than you will for the Illinois Illini, and with Arizona, Maryland, and a trip to Maui on the list Bruce Weber is hoping that will get his team ready to contend for a Big Ten title.

The Wisconsin Badgers lost quite a bit from last year's team that went 13-3 in the league, but this team will still be poised for another NCAA tournament appearance and a strong conference showing.

It's been awhile since Purdue was on top of the league, but things are on the way up.  This season will find the Boilermakers around the middle of the pack yet again before a big year in 2008.

With Tubby Smith taking over for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, expectations are going to be high.  The team will be improved from last year's terrible performance, but the Gophers will take a few years to be a Big Ten leader.

The glory days seem to be behind the Michigan Wolverines, and this isn't going to be the year that the team returns to the upper echelons of the league.

Penn State was last in the Big Ten a year ago, and this year won't be much better but with Iowa and Northwestern being so bad you'll see this team actually ahead of someone in the standings.

It's going to be an ugly year for the Iowa Hawkeyes with not really any solid talent returning.  Steve Alford thought it was going to be so bad he bolted the Big Ten for New Mexico.

Northwestern is going to be found at the bottom of the conference.  This team doesn't really have the talent it takes to compete in the conference.
