2007 Buffalo Bills Predictions & Season Preview

Now check out our 2008 Buffalo Bills NFL Season Predictions!

The Buffalo Bills are going to have to contend with a tough division and an even tougher schedule in 2007 if they plan on ending their playoff drought.  That is going to be a problem with the amount of youth on the team and lack of veteran leadership available.  This year the Bills will be without Willis McGahee, Nate Clements, Takeo Spikes, and London Fletcher and their replacements are either rookie or other young players.  It's hard to imagine a team being better losing those four and not picking up viable replacements.

JP Losman will be the starter and he is hoping to build off the vast improvements he made in 2006.  He threw for a little over 3,000 yards, 19 TDs, and had a completion percentage of 62.5%.  The Bills have a shot at getting to .500 if he can keep improving.  At running back McGahee is being replaced by a rookie, Marshawn Lynch from California.  The good news is that McGahee was a disappointment the last two years and the team was ready to move on, but rookie running backs have a tough time in their first season with the heavy load.  Losman will look to get the ball early and often to Lee Evans, who is a Pro Bowl type receiver.  Someone else is going to have to step up though as Roscoe Parrish, Josh Reed, and Peerless Price didn't get it done a year ago.

The Bills front four is the strength of the defense and they are deep at both tackle and end.  The ability to get to the quarterback had them in the top 10 in sacks and top 10 in pass defense.  Aaron Schobel led the team with 14 sacks, but Chris Kelsay keeps pressure off him on the other side.  At tackle there is newcomer Darwin Walker, and second-year guy Kyle Williams.  Buffalo has turned over all of their starting linebackers from a year ago, with Paul Posluszny most likely starting as a rookie from Penn State.  Angelo Crowell and Keith Ellison both got plenty of playing time last year and showed they could be NFL starters.  The secondary can't get much younger, with three guys coming off their rookie seasons and Terrence McGee coming off one of the worst seasons of his career.  Don't look for this team to finish in the top 10 again this season in pass defense.

There is no way that Buffalo gets to 7 wins this year playing in the AFC East.  We see 5 wins being the most likely, but 6 is about their ceiling.  This team is just too young to win a bunch of games, and their defense past their front four is suspect.  Take the under and stay away from them on the prop bets.  Of course if you want help each week in beating the NFL odds then make sure you get signed up for Jimmy's NFL picks before the season even begins.
