2007 California Bears Football Preview & PredictionsNow read up on our 2008 California Bears Predictions! Jimmy Boyd's 2007 California Bears football preview and predictions show this team winding up second in the Pac 10 behind the USC Trojans. We recommend using this article to improve your earlier season wagers, but if you think you might need some help in beating the college football odds then sign up for one of our premium college football picks package. Last year this team went 10-3 overall and 7-2 in the Pac 10, earning a tie with the Trojans for the conference title.
Offensively the Bears will not have a problem. Nate Longshore had a decent year last year with 3,021 yards, 24 TDs, and 13 picks. He'll have a talented group of receivers to throw to, led by the speedy DeSean Jackson. Jackson have 59 catches in his sophomore campaign and is ready for a breakout year. Marshawn Lynch is gone off to the Buffalo Bills, but Justin Forsett has been a reliable backup who was waiting for his chance to shine. The defense had some injury problems last year, but the return of Rulon Davis at end and Anthony Felder to full strength will help their weak defensive numbers from a year ago. Depth is a problem up front, and these guys have to play well in order to free up a strong linebacking corps, including Zack Follett, who will be one of the best middle linebackers in the Pac 10. The secondary is young, but Syd'Quan Thompson was solid at corner as a freshman and Bernard Hicks is an above average safety. Cal is going to be just a step below USC, but should be the second best team in the conference. These guys could sneak out a BCS spot if they can beat Tennessee at home and win on the road at UCLA. Winning both seems like a long shot, so we see them being just outside of the top 10 in the nation looking in. However, if things go right they do get the Trojans at home, and a BCS title game isn't too big of a stretch.
