College Bowl Predictions2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl Odds & PredictionsWith the 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl fast approaching on December 29th, we thought we would break down the betting odds and line between Connecticut and Wake Forest. The game will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina at 1 PM EST and will be televied on ESPN. Most sports fans would think that these two teams belong more in the NCAA basketball tournament facing off rather than a college bowl game, and that is one reason that we think both of these teams are included in the group of most under-rated in the nation. Both schools had a chance to make major bowls this year, but have had to settle for what has to be a disappointment. The good news for Wake Forest fans is that they are only going to have to travel 80 miles to attend this bowl game. While that might not be all that glamorous for the faithful, it does mean that enough of them should be in attendance to make this sort of a home game for the Deacons. Wake Forest was 5-1 in front of their home crowd with their only loss being in the second week, 20-17 to Nebraska. The Demon Deacons finished up at 8-4 both straight up (SU) and against the spread (ATS). Offensively the team isn't going to win any shootouts, with 191.3 passing yards per game (ypg) and 143.3 rushing ypg in scoring 28.2 points per game (ppg). The defense is full of athletes who did a great job at stopping the run, but struggled against opposing passers. Wake Forest is giving up 242.1 ypg via the air and 108.9 ypg to opposing rushers. Connecticut doesn't really have a strong passing game, but does have a really good rushing attack. The defense is also a strong point for the 9-3 SU and 8-3 ATS Huskies as they allowed only 18.6 ppg. The defense was fairly balanced in allowing 187.8 passing ypg and 158.5 rushing ypg. Connecticut had some trouble in their final game of the season in stopping West Virginia's running game as they allowed 66 poings in the finale, but that was only the second time all year the team allowed the opposition to put up more than 19 points in a game. That defense allowed the Huskies to finish second in the Big East this year, and if they hadn't completely flopped against West Virginia in their last game, they could have been in a BCS Bowl. Even though you might not have heard much about Connecticut, don't underestimate them in this bowl. Trends: Connecticut is 7-2 ATS in their last nine games. Wake Forest is 6-1 ATS over their last seven games. Oddsmakers predicted score: Connecticut Huskies 23 2007 Meineke Car Care Bowl Odds: Connecticut Huskies
