Cavs Wizards Series Predictions

This is one of two sweeps that we’ll likely see in the first round in the Eastern Conference. The Pistons should also make quick work of the Orlando Magic in that one versus eight matchup.

I’ll bet Lebron James is still smiling from ear to ear. It appeared that the Cavs would wind up as the number five seed which would put them in a frightening first-round matchup with the Miami Heat. And if they happened to squeak that series out, they would then get a chance to face the Detroit Pistons in the conference semifinals and we know how well that worked out last season. The Bulls went down to New Jersey in the season finale Wednesday night and now Cleveland is sitting in pretty good shape.

King James and company get the Washington Wizards minus All-Stars Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler in this two seed versus seven seed matchup. With Washington so banged up, everyone in the Eastern Conference would love the opportunity to participate in this first-round cruise. The Wizards lost 8 of their last 10 games down the stretch proving that, without Agent Zero and Mr. Consistency Caron Butler, they ain’t much.

It’s a shame that we are looking at an easy pass to the second round for Cleveland with the entertainment that these teams provided a season ago. We saw three one-point games in last year’s first round matchup and plenty of trash talking between James and Arenas with James seemingly getting into Arenas’ head. Expect three double digit wins by Cleveland this time around.

The only first round series which should be less interesting will be Detroit/Orlando. At least we will get to see plenty of highlight reel plays from King James.

I suppose, since this one is in the bag, we could project for a minute, what the series would be like if Washington was healthy. The Wizards weren’t a good road team this season and they play very poor defense. So I think we’d be safe in saying that the Cavs would prevail here even if they were facing the Wizards’ stars. Cleveland’s defense has improved a great deal this season and by Lebron leading the Cavs to the second-best record in the Eastern Conference, we have to believe that this kid is capable of doing some big things before his career is over. They just might start this season as Cleveland’s path to the conference finals looks clear.
