2007 Chick-fil-A Bowl Odds & Predictions

On December 31st, 2007 at 7:30 PM EST in Atlanta, Georgia Auburn and Clemson will square off in the 2007 Chick-fil-A Bowl.  The game will be televised on ESPN and should be a good one to watch as two teams that are very talented battle it away, but if you want to win a little money then read up and sign up for Jimmy Boyd's college bowl picks.  We dominated the odds every night during the bowl season so if you want to add a little extra cash to your bankroll then see who Jimmy is picking to win this one against the spread.  This is one of the older bowls dating back to 1968, when it was known as the Peach Bowl until Chick-fil-A picked up the sponsorship back in 1997.

While both of these teams are top-notch when it comes to defense, Clemson has the slight edge in allowing only 297.1 yards per game (ypg), good for 6th in the nation.  The real edge for these Tigers comes on offense where they put up nearly 34 points per game (ppg) in lighting up ACC opponents.  Of course there were plenty of tuneup games in Central Michigan, Furman, and Louisiana-Monroe that helped Clemson look a little better on paper than if they would have played some additional quality teams, but the tandem of James Davis and CJ Spiller is impressive nonetheless.  Even though these backs seemed to run over whoever crossed their path, quarterback Cullen Harper was equally dominate in completing 67% of his passes for 27 touchdowns to only 6 picks.  It helps to have this kind of balance, especially when the defense is as tenacious as Clemson's.

Auburn is no slouch on defense either, ranking 8th in the nation with 297.1 ypg allowed, but their offense isn't quite as talented.  This was supposed to be a breakout year for senior quarterback Brandon Cox, but his game never materialized as hoped for.  He threw for only 1,869 yards and threw for only nine touchdowns to go with 12 interceptions.  He struggled to find receivers all year, with a lot of the blame coming on an offensive line that couldn't give him any time.  As the season progressed, things got better, which gives us hope there will be some balance in the bowl game.  However, don't expect there to be too many points, especially if you think Auburn is going to win because they won't be able to keep up in a shootout.
