2007 Cincinnati Basketball Picks & Predictions

Written by Jimmy Boyd on November 18, 2007

Things can’t get any worse for Mick Cronin and the Bearcats, can they? Jimmy Boyd tells all with the college basketball predictions in his 2007 Cincinnati Bearcats season preview.

A host of juco transfers helped Cincy to just an 11-19 record last season. At one point the cats lost 10 in a row last season with Cronin left to helplessly watch. He is hoping that a solid recruiting class will instantly get this team heading back in the direction of national prominence.

Mike Williams, a 6’7’’ transfer from Texas, along with Adam Hrycaniuk, a 6’10’’ polish bruiser, the Cats will be significantly better on the boards and on defense. Expect both of these guys to jump right into the starting lineup, joining John Williamson. Williamson is a capable scorer who averaged 13.5 points per game last season. Marcus Sikes will now get to be just an assassin from three-point range instead of having to play inside like he did last season. 6’11’’ frosh Anthony McClain and 6’8’’ frosh Kenny Belton will give Cincy more options inside.

Deonta Vaughn is Cincy’s man in the backcourt. He averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game as a freshman. Vaughn made the Big East All-Rookie team and will be even better this season with more help in the form of Alvin Mitchell. The 6’5’’ Mitchell was a scoring machine in high school last season. His ability to score will allow Vaughn to take on more of a true point guard role.

It was an accomplishment for Cronin to even field a team last season. He’s apparently made big strides already this season, but Bearcats fans who enjoyed continual success under Bob Huggins aren’t forgiving. The Big East is a tough conference to rebuild in as it is stacked with some of the best talent in the country, but we believe Cronin will get the job done. If he gets to .500 this year and qualifies for the Big East Tourney, he will have pulled off a great triumph. If he reaches the NCAA in three more years, Cincy faithful should be more than happy.

Cincy is a team which we will likely stay away from with our basketball betting this year. Inexperienced teams are never good options as they are often inconsistent. But if they give us an angle, or get hot, you can bet that Jimmy Boyd will look to take advantage. Make sure you’re on board with Mr. Boyd’s college basketball picks this season for the most success beating the NCAA basketball odds.
