2007 Coca Cola 600 Predictions
How does NASCAR attempt to compete with Indy 500 on Memorial Day weekend each year? It holds its longest race of the season. The Coca Cola 600 odds are now listed and it comes as no surprise that Jimmie Johnson is the odds on favorite at 3/1 odds having won the race three of the last four years. Find out if Jimmy Boyd thinks Johnson will take the checkered flag again in 2007 with his 2007 Coca Cola 600 predictions.
This is not just another NASCAR race so expect the drivers to putting the pedal to the metal now that this one is for points (last week’s All-Star Challenge didn’t affect the standings). This is hands down one of the top five races of the year and was once considered the third leg of the grand slam. Drivers are well aware of this history and love nothing more than to capture bragging rights in NASCAR’s longest event.
Jeff Gordon is another driver who has had great success in long races. If you’re not going with his teammate Jimmie Johnson, you might want to make Mr. Gordon your man. He is listed at 4/1 odds for this Sunday’s big race. He has three career wins at Lowe’s Motor Speedway as well as 10 top fives and 12 top tens.
Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth are both listed at 8/1 odds. I’ll tell you right now that Tony Stewart is being overvalued here just as he has been all year. He does have a decent track record at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, but he has been anything but solid on the track in 2007 with no checkered flags and only two top five finishes. Lowe’s Motor Speedway seems to separate the good driver’s from the mediocre so it comes as no surprise that the drivers I’ve mentioned all have good track records there. Matt Kenseth does have a win in 2007, which is pretty good considering all the checkered flags that Hendrick Motorsports is taking, but I don’t think he is showing enough value this week.
Kevin Harvick is showing good value at 15/1 odds. Harvick has great momentum heading into this one just winning at the track last weekend in the All-Star challenge. Harvick has come to play in the big races this season winning the season opening Daytona 500 which gave him a nice $1.5 million payday and last weekend’s All-Star Challenege earning him a $1 million dollar cash award. I feel Harvick is being slightly undervalued here and will be a force to be reckoned with come race day.
That gives you a run down of the top contenders in my mind. Good luck with your wagers on this Sunday’s big race.
