2007 Detroit Lions Predictions & Season Preview

Now you can read up on our 2008 Detroit Lions Predictions & NFL Picks!

Rod Marinelli seemed to have a positive impact in his first season as head coach, but the team still only won three games.  The offense has plenty of question marks with an aging quarterback and a running back coming off injury.  The defense doesn't have very many solid performers so a post-season run seems more than unlikely.

At quarterback the team is entrusting Jon Kitna to take the reigns again this year, even though he's 35 and has never been a top tier guy.  He took every snap last year and amassed some Lions records, but not ones that were that tough to get to anyway.  The future of the team should be in Drew Stanton's hands, but this will be a year of learning for him as he won't be seeing any playing time.  Kevin Jones has a torn up foot and it doesn't look like he's going to be back at full strength to start the season so the Lions went out and got Tatum Bell.  Bell has speed but we don't think he can carry  the load on his own.  Mike Furrey and his 98 catches will be back once again and Roy Williams is a Pro Bowler who had over 1,300 yards last year.  Detroit also went out and drafted Calvin Johnson with their first pick, hoping he'll turn out better than their other top receiver draft picks.

Detroit doesn't have a lot of talent on the ends, but in the middle there is Cory Redding and Shaun Rogers, a couple of guys who can be top tier guys if playing up to their potential.  The Lions have had trouble keeping their linebacking group healthy, but if they do then most likely this could be the best unit of the defense.  In the secondary there is no more Dre Bly at corner, nor will Terrence Holt be at free safety.  What's left is a thin group with mediocre talent, and if any of them gets hurt then the cupboard is pretty bare.

We don't have much hope for the Lions this year, but we still think that six wins is a little low.  This team can more than double their win total from a year ago if Marinelli can get as much out of his players as we think he can.  This team will still finish near the bottom of the division, but for our win total wager we are taking the over six wins.
