2007 LA Dodgers Predictions
Check out our
2008 Los Angeles Dodgers Predictions!
The Dodgers are the
favorites to capture the NL West title in 2007 and I
can’t find a reason why they won’t unless they fall into
some terrible injury problems. LA’s rotation is stacked.
With Jason Schmidt taking over as ace of this team along
with Derek Lowe, Brad Penny, and Randy Wolf, the Dodgers
should breeze through the NL West in 2007, especially
with the Padres projected to have a down year. GM Ned
Colleti was out on the hunt for a big stick for the
middle of the order, but not being able to land such a
player proved to be good fortune. He then made Schmidt
his man, and the hard throwing righty could be just what
this team needs to be the team to beat out west for
years to come.

This season, Juan Pierre will join Nomar Garciapparra
on the list of former Cubs players who don’t live up to
expectations in Chicago but excel elsewhere. Pierre
gives the Dodgers a lead off hitter who has the ability
to lead the NL in hits and stolen bases as he did in
2006. Cubs fans hardly noticed as Pierre’s on base
percentage was down on a struggling team. Garciapparra
stayed healthy, for the most part, and delivered a 20
homerun 93 RBI season. Despite just 15 homeruns and 63
RBI’s, the Dodgers will move Rafael Furcal to the
3-hole. I see him as more of a number two hitter because
of his speed. It will be interesting to see how this
move pans out. If aging stars, Kent and Gonzalez can get
their power numbers back up to hitting over 20 homeruns
and driving in over 80 runs, the Dodgers will have a
shot to some damage in the playoffs. The 14 homeruns
that Kent had and the 15 that Gonzalez had are not going
to be enough for this team.
It has been forever since the LA Dodgers were more than
minute players in the postseason. It’s been nearly 20
years since they have won a playoff series. Their 1988
World Series victory was the last series the Dodgers won
and since that time they have only won one playoff game.
It wasn’t Colleti’s intention, but by default, he picked
up Jason Schmidt which gives him a solid ace to complete
this staff. With this guy getting two starts in a
seven-game series, the Dodgers chances are looking
pretty good. There’s no question that the Dodgers will
be the class of the NL West this season while the other
four teams try to hang on for a Wild Card berth. The
question remain if LA can get it done in the fall. I
like their chances this year to finally give their fans
some more to cheer about it the playoffs.
