College Bowl Predictions2007 Emerald Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe 2007 Emerald Bowl odds have been posted for the game taking place on December 28th at 8:30 PM EST on ESPN from San Francisco, California. This year's contest will be between the 6-6 Maryland Terps and the 8-4 Oregon State Beavers even though typically the Pac-10 and Mountain West Conferences fill the slots. This is a newer bowl getting it's start back in 2002, when it was known as the San Francisco Bowl, and has had a history of blowouts in the first five years. Maryland was up and down all year as evidenced by their 6-6 record. The difference between this year's edition and last year's team that went 9-4 was their performance in close games. Last year they won five straight games by a total of 13 points, but this year the Terps lost four ACC games by less than ten points. The team did show that they could hang with the big boys in a number of games though, they upset Rutgers early in the year, they gave Boston College a costly loss in November, and then ended the year by shutting out North Carolina State and becoming bowl eligible. Chris Turner has proved he is ready to be a collegiate quarterback in his sophomore season. He stepped in after four games and completed 64% of his passes, but had only five passing touchdowns. The running game is balanced between Lance Ball and Keon Lattimore, and these two combined for more than 1550 yards on the ground. He needs to get a quicker release or better protection though as the Terps gave up 38 sacks this season, which was one of the worst numbers in the country. Oregon State may not have won ten games like they did last year, but they were still pretty impressive in winning six of their last seven and gunning their way up the conference standings. The Beavers struggled with the injury bug all year on offense and it showed, but the defense really stepped up for the good of the team. After a couple of debacles in September when Oregon State gave up more than forty to Arizona State and UCLA, the Beavers didn't allow another opponent to score more than 28 points in any four quarters. The team is fast and can get to the quarterback (remember Maryland's sack problems?) as they racked up 42, good for 3rd in the nation. Even with the success on defense, the special teams is the weakest unit and could cost them in a close game. The offense needs Lyle Moevao to step up at quarterback or else you could see an upset in this one. Oddsmakers predicted score: Maryland Terps 22 2007 Emerald Bowl Odds: Maryland Terps
