2007 Florida Basketball Predictions & Season Preview

Anyone thinking that our 2007 Florida basketball predictions and season preview will show a team so decimated by the departure of their top six players that they miss the NCAA tournament will be sorely disappointed.  Billy Donovan flirted with the NBA before realizing that he can bring guys in to compete year after year down in Gainesville.  He's the highest paid coach in college basketball and he'll start showing why he's worth the price this year when he takes this new group of talented stars and tries to groom them for a future tournament run.  There is no experience at all, but this will definitely be a building year that will have the Gators ready for next season.

Size and depth will be an issue for the front court.  Marreese Speights played sparingly last year as a freshman in garbage time, but he outworks most opponents and is a good finisher.  At 6'10" he could easily be the man in the middle for a small team that has a lot of 6'7" and 6'8" players.  Jonathan Mitchell, Alex Tyus, Dan Werner, and Chandler Parsons will all be working for a starting spot, and the only real good news is that each is talented to push the others to get better over the course of the year, but none will be ready when the season gets under way for tough SEC play.

Walter Hodge is the only real returner from last year's championship squad.  He played nearly 18 minutes per game last year, and while he averaged only 5.7 points, Hodge shot 54.5% from the field.  Donovan is hoping he can play off the ball and not have to stick him at point, but the team only has Jai Lucas as a true ball handler.  Lucas does have the pedigree as he is the son of John Lucas, but is 5'11" and 150 lbs.  Nick Calathese will also fight for a spot in the lineup and at 6'5" with incredible athleticism it's easy to see why Donovan wants him out there as much as possible.

The college basketball odds on Florida this year might be a little inflated because of their recent success, but more likely expectations will be low since the team lost so much from a year ago.  We love watching this team play and that is why you will find a lot of college basketball picks either on or against the Gators whenever we see a possible advantage.  If you want to make a little extra money this year with your college basketball betting, then get signed up for a premium package with Jimmy Boyd today.
