2007 Florida State Basketball Predictions & Season
Preview
To the
disappointment of Seminoles fans,
our 2007 Florida State basketball
predictions and season preview
show the team sitting on the outside
of the tournament brackets looking
in again come Selection Sunday.
This team has put together two
straight 20-win seasons but has
found themselves stuck in the NIT
both times. Now Al Thornton
won't be on the floor with them as
he was an NBA Lottery pick last
summer, but the team will have a
veteran backcourt to go with a
strong incoming class to fill the
shows in the front court. This
team will still most likely finish
in the middle to bottom of the pack
in the ACC, and they'll have to hope
that they can sneak their way into
the tournament if they get in at
all.

Uche Echefu was overmatched in a
lot of games at 6'9" trying to play
in the paint against the biggest
players on opposing teams. Now
he'll have the chance to slide back
to his natural position of power
forward with the arrival of freshman
center Solomon Alabi at 7'1" and
Julian Vaughn at 6'10". Alabi
will give the team a defensive force
in the paint who can block shots,
and Vaughn will be more beneficial
to the team's success on the
offensive side of the floor.
Echefu is a decent shooter who can
bring out opposing big man to help
stop his perimeter shooting.
The team has depth with Ryan Reid
down low and a couple of unproven
small forwards in Casaan Breeden and
Jordan Demercy.
The Noles have experience in the backcourt, something that is rare in today's
age of early entry into the NBA draft. Jason Rich, Toney Douglas, Isaiah
Swann, and Ralph Mims are all upper-classmen who saw significant time a year
ago. Douglas, Rich, and Swann are the three leading returning scorers who
can also share the ball and rebound from the guard spot and should see some
significant playing time together on the floor again this season. All
three of these guys seemed to be getting better and better as the season
progressed, giving Florida State some hope of ending their tournament draught.
