John Thompson III took the Hoyas to their first Final Four since his father was pacing the sidelines. The 30-win campaign was their first since 1985. The Hoyas return four of five starters and these guys will be hungry to outdo last season’s performance. But the loss of Big East Player of the Year Jeff Green will be one hurdle for the Hoyas to get past.

7’2’’ Roy Hibbert will be a guy who can help alleviate the loss of Green. He averaged 12.9 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game while leading the 16-team power conference in field goal percentage. With Hibbert electing to come back, we feel the Hoyas will be poised to make another deep NCAA Tourney run in 2007-08.

The backcourt duo of Jon Wallace and Jessie Sapp will be among the best in the Big East. Wallace averaged 11.4 points and 3.1 assists per game and Sapp added 9.1 points, 3.5 assists, and 4.0 rebounds per game.

With Green off to the NBA, the Hoyas will also turn to DaJuan Summers. Summers averaged just over 9.0 points per game and with his strong, athletic 6’8’’ frame, he could emerge into the Hoyas’ go-to guy. With Patrick Ewing Jr. and Vernon Macklin, the Hoyas will have some nice depth.

A few seasons ago, fans didn’t know if the Georgetown program would ever be back on the map. Now John Thompson III has this team ready to challenge for another Big East title and a Final Four appearance. With Hibbert patrolling the middle, Sapp and Wallace bring experience and savvy to the backcourt, and Summers filling the swing roll, the Hoyas are going to be tough to stop.

Georgetown backers should get ready for another profitable season. The Hoyas are one of the best defensive teams in the nation and defense does win championships. It nearly did the trick for the Hoyas a season ago. If you’ve got the stack to lay down on the money line with your college basketball picks, Georgetown should be a solid bet for you as this team should threaten 30 wins. Jimmy Boyd will look to do some basketball betting on the Hoyas as well. Because this team is so solid defensively, we will have more than a few opportunities to make under plays, taking advantage of spots where we feel Georgetown will shut down its opponents and beat the college basketball odds.
