Georgia Tech’s offense is going to have to deal with the loss of Reggie Ball and Calvin Johnson, but the team does have seven offensive starters returning and enough talent to plug on. Head coach Chan Gailey thinks the loss of Ball won’t be that detrimental since Taylor Bennett has a better arm. James Johnson and DeMaryius Thomas are a couple of guys who are above-average at wide receiver, but neither one will be able to replace Johnson’s numbers alone. The team’s main offensive threat this year will be Tashard Choice, the senior running back who gained 1,473 yards rushing and 12 touchdowns on 297 carries.

Defensively the team was better than most a year ago and returns eight starters, losing only one from each unit. Adamm Oliver was second team All-ACC last year and he’ll be part of a deep group along the line. The linebackers are going to be tough with Philip Wheeler leading the way last year with 9 sacks and 89 tackles. The secondary could be a little shaky, but Jamal Lewis is one of the best strong safeties in college football and will have NFL teams calling his number after the season.

Georgia Tech is the second most talented team in the ACC, but they do get the best at home when Virginia Tech visits on November 1st. The Yellow Jackets must also travel to Notre Dame and Miami, plus their is the rivalry game at home against Georgia at the end of the season. This team went 9-5 a year ago and 7-1 in the ACC. It is going to be tough to repeat those kinds of win totals against this year, but a 10-2 season is not out of the question.
