College Bowl Predictions2007 Hawaii Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe first thing you'll notice about the 2007 Hawaii Bowl odds is that this total is set very high. That is because both offenses can score a lot of points, but it doesn't mean that the defenses are slouches either. The Boise State East Carolina betting line probably isn't much of a surprise since the Broncos had such a high profile win in the BCS last year and had a very good season again in 2007. East Carolina is a team that flies a little bit under the radar by playing on Conference USA, but don't make the mistake of underestimating Skip Holtz's squad. This could be a very entertaining game, and one that you could make a little money on with your college bowl betting.
Boise State surprised a lot of people a year ago by winning the WAC, going undefeated, and then upsetting the Oklahoma Sooners in one of the most exciting college football games we have ever seen. They had a real good shot at returning to the BCS picture this year but lost in their last game of the year to the Hawaii Warriors on the same field this game will be played on. Chris Peterson's team is still 10-2 and won't take this game lightly since it seems like they never take a week off. The offense is still as potent as we have come to expect from the Broncos, and the big surprise is how well Taylor Tharp, a senior, played despite this being his first season in the starting role. Of course it helps to have a great offensive line and Ian Johnson in the backfield, who was hampered by injuries this year, but will be at full strength for this game. The defense isn't all that impressive, but they just have to stall opposing offenses and let the other side of the ball carry the load. East Carolina went from being a solid defensive team in 2006 to more of an offensive powerhouse in 2007. They score 8.7 more points per game (ppg) in 2007 than 2006, but allowed nine ppg more as well. The Pirates finished the season at 7-5 for the second year in a row, including 6-2 in Conference USA play. East Carolina is lead by their senior running back Chris Johnson, who scored 22 touchdowns this year and can do it all, rushing, receiving, and returning kicks. The Pirates also take care of the ball as well as anyone in the nation, coughing it up only 13 times in their 12 games which makes it tough on the opposition to get easy points. Defensively the team may not have been as powerful as a year ago, but those numbers increased in part due to their offense scoring more points as well. Over the last four weeks of the season the Pirates cut the opposition down to only 21 ppg, with tons of pressure being the key factor. Even if you don't plan to sign up for our college bowl picks to get an easy winner on this game, it should be very exciting and offensive minded, entertaining to say the least.
