College Football Predictions2007 Heisman CandidatesHere is a list of the 2007 Heisman Candidates as Jimmy Boyd sees the field. There are a lot of names on this page, but that is because we want to make sure to take a look at everyone that has even a remote chance at picking up some hardware at the end of the year. As the season progresses we will trim down the list and provide more detailed information as to how each one of these players is doing. If you want to bet on who is going to win the trophy then take a look at our odds to win the Heisman page.
1. John David Booty - Everyone around the country gives USC instant credit and Palmer and Leinart gave the quarterback position the spotlight. He had a great junior year, but when USC is going to be ranked no. 1 in the preseason polls and most likely most of the season, this guy stands above the rest and should be the favorite. 2. Steve Slaton - This guy finished fourth in the voting last year as a sophomore as he has put up monster numbers in his first two years as a college football player. We think he'll do more of the same this year and with West Virginia having a great shot at an unbeaten record, this guy will benefit from the attention. 3. Darren McFadden - Last year's second place finisher came out of nowhere a year ago. He needs Arkansas to remain competitive because he'll put up the numbers as he did last year when he gained almost 1,650 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. 4. Colt Brennan - Brennan had one of the best statistical seasons in the history of college football a year ago, and the coaches think he can improve. He is probably going to have to do better and then lead Hawaii through what could be a schedule that allows them to make a BCS bowl. 5. Mike Hart - Hart finished fifth in the voting last year and we see him right around the same spot this year. He had 1,562 yards and 14 touchdowns a year ago and has been in the Michigan limelight for years. If the Wolverines can perform up to expectations and win the Big Ten, then he should get credit for carrying the load. 6. Brian Brohm - He's had some health issues, but if Brohm can stay healthy then he should be able to lead Louisville to a respectable record and put up some decent numbers along the way. The problem for Brohm is a new head coach after Bobby Petrino departed for the Atlanta Falcons. 7. Pat White - White needs to put up better passing numbers this year to get the nod over his teammate Steve Slaton, but he's the quickest quarterback in the game who will put up monster rushing numbers. These two could split votes and end up costing each other a higher finish. 8. Chad Henne - Michigan quarterbacks are a pretty glamorous position to hold and Henne has for quite some time now. He's known around the country and has a great group of receivers to throw to, but like White he might be hurt by having another contender in the same backfield with him. 9. Ray Rice - One of the best backs in the game, Rice quietly put up 1,794 yards and 20 touchdowns while leading Rutgers to the top of the Big East conference. He had to carry the ball a lot, some say too much, which could hamper him this season. Plus he's lost a key blocker in fullback Brian Leonard. 10. Chase Daniel - In his first season as a starter for the Missouri Tigers, Daniel put up 3,527 yards and 28 touchdowns to go with only 10 picks. It's going to be tough for him to put up better numbers than that, but if he can and lead the Tigers to the Big 12 North title, then this guy will be one of the finalists. July 31st, 2007
