College Bowl Predictions2007 Holiday Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe 2007 Holiday Bowl odds have been posted and this should be an exciting game between two teams that had high hopes of making a BCS Bowl but ended up playing earlier than they had expected. Texas comes into this game at 9-3 straight up (SU) and 6-6 against the spread (ATS) while Arizona State stands at 10-2 SU and 5-6 ATS. The two teams have done completely different things when it comes to the totals this year with the Longhorns going over in 8 of 12 while the Sun Devils went over in only 3 of 11. Even though Texas is a 2.5 point favorite a lot of fans have been wondering how, so we'll break down both teams in this preview to hopeful help your handicapping and college bowl betting.
After Texas lost their season finales to Texas A&M, Mack Brown opened up the starting spots for everyone to compete for in the weeks heading up to this game. That is one thing we look for in finding teams that are motivated to play during the bowl season. The problem with the Longhorns all season long has been inconsistency. They look like a BCS contender one week then look like a .500 squad the next. This team got beat pretty bad by a 5-6 Kansas State team and came away with three-point wins against teams like Central Florida, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State. Colt McCoy was disappointing in forcing too many balls early in the year, causing his interception number to be high. He didn't have Limas Sweed, a preseason All-American who went down early with a wrist injury, but he did have plenty of help in the rushing game with Jamaal Charles. Charles put up more than 1500 yards and has racked up 736 rushing yards over the last four games. Defensively, the team was 109th in the nation against the pass, and with Arizona State throwing for 260 yards per game this could cause Texas backers a concern. Rudy Carpenter was accurate this year with a 63% completion rate and only eight picks to 23 touchdown passes. He had 3,015 passing yards and a QB rating of 149.5, but the problem was he didn't have that much time to throw and was sacked 51 times during the year. Even though the offense was supposed to steal the show, the defense actually performed much better than expected and was a big reason for the Sun Devils' success. Arizona State is only allowing 232 ypg through the air, and 107.2 ypg on the ground. It will be interesting to see if they can continue to cause McCoy problems while somehow finding a way to stop Charles. Trends: Texas is 5-1 SU over their last 6 Arizona State is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games Oddsmakers predicted score: Texas Longhorns 33 2007 Holiday Bowl Odds: Texas Longhorns
