When taking a look at our 2007 Houston Texans predictions, keep in mind that this is a young team with a lot of new faces that could be poised for a breakout down the line, we just don't think it's going to happen this season.  In last year's draft they passed on Reggie Bush and Vince Young because they had David Carr and Domanick Williams, but both of those players are gone in 2007 and Mario Williams was a disappointment for the team a year ago.  This year the Texans brought in a bunch of new faces in order to turn things around, but expect more of the same from Houston this year.

Houston is putting a lot on the shoulders of Mike Vick's career backup Matt Schaub.  They went after Schaub because they feel like he's got a great pocket presence and can move around in the pocket, something that Carr had trouble doing in getting sacked more than anyone else.  The team thinks Ahman Greene, even though he's playing his 10th season in the NFL.  Ron Dayne ran well in the last couple of games and should spell Greene effectively.  Andre Johnson is a Pro Bowl receiver who will give Schaub a target.  The problem is that he will be facing double teams every week because there isn't anyone else on the team that can threaten opposing teams.  If Houston can't get Johnson some help, the opposition will just key in and take him out of the game, because nobody else can win a game for them.

The Texans are talented up front even though they are pretty young.  Amobi Okoye was the first round pick to play at tackle, coupling with last year's top choice Mario Williams.  The team is plenty deep here and should rotate plenty of players in and out as this unit is the best on the team.  DeMarco Ryans led the NFL in tackles as a rookie, and the Texans added Shawn Barber to give the unit depth.  Morlon Greenwood and Shantee Orr both play well on the outside.  The secondary was a big reason for the Texans' 27th place finish against the pass, but all four players return from a year ago and are looking to improve on those numbers.

One of our favorite bets this season will be on the Houston Texans to go under 6.5 wins.  Our projections see about 5 wins on the schedule, with 6 being on the high end.  The chances that they get to 7 or more wins is very, very unlikely, so make the under a best bet and cash in.  Of course if you want to win every week then sign up for our NFL picks and predictions to beat the weekly NFL odds.
