Colorado comes into this game at 6-6 straight up (SU) and 6-5 against the spread (ATS), but seems to have struggled to finish the season.  The Buffaloes lost four of their last six games and mostly because their defense couldn't stop anyone.  Their last three opponents averaged almost 46 ppg.  The pass defense allowed over 261.8 ypg to opponents this season, but the good news for Buffs fans is that John David Parker struggled in Nick Saban's new system, so whether Bama can take advantage is up in the air.  Colorado's offense can score some points though, that's even though they are starting a freshman at quarterback.  It does help when that quarterback is the son of coach Dan Hawkins.  Cody seemed a little inconsistent at times with his 19 touchdowns to only 15 picks, but he seems to be improving with each start.

A lot of people wondered if Alabama deserves to be here over South Carolina, but a lot of that has to do with the history of the program and the buzz created by Nick Saban's first year.  The Tide lost their last four games and it was mostly because the offense couldn't get going.  The team only averaged 12 ppg over their last three, and with the team going 2-8 ATS it's easy to see how disappointing they were in comparision to expectations.  This is a team that lost to Louisiana-Monroe as 24.5 point favorites, then Saban came out and made comparisions to 9/11 and Pearl Harbour.  That may not have gone over well with a lot of people, but it did create excitement for the Independence Bowl committee.  The Tide were also involved in this game a year ago and with their 34-31 lost to Oklahoma State, providing fans with one of the better games of the season.

Interesting betting trends:

Colorado is 2-4 ATS over their last six games
The Buffaloes have gone over in six of their last seven games

Alabama is only 1-8 ATS in their last nine games

Oddsmakers predicted score:

Colorado Buffaloes 24
Alabama Rolling Tide 27
