2007 Indy 500 Predictions
Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner which means it’s time to
start searching for some 2007 Indy 500 predictions. The 91st
Indianapolis 500 will be held Sunday May 27 at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway. This event has been referred to as “The Greatest Spectacle in
Racing” as it produces some of the largest attendance numbers and radio and
television audiences of any single-day sporting event across the world. You
can expect more than 270,000 fans to be cheering on their favorite drivers
come race day.

Dan Wheldon (9/2
odds), Scott Dixon (5/2
odds), Tony Kanaan (4/1
odds), Sam Hornish Jr. (5/1
odds), and Helio Castroeves (5/1
odds) are the favorites for this Sunday’s big race. History shows that
the race winner usually comes from the first three rows of starters. In row
one we have Helio Castroneves, Tony Kanaan, and Dario Franchitti.
Castroneves is the polesitter and has plenty of success at this track thanks
to his patience and calculating driving. He could get his third Indy 500
victory this year. I’ll rule out Franchitti, but Kanaan has been fast all
month and I have a good feeling that he will be the aggressor in this race.
Expect him to lead a lot of laps and perhaps hold off the rest of the field
for Indy glory.
In row two we have Scott Dixon, Sam Hornish Jr., and Dan Wheldon. Just last
year Sam Hornish Jr. came from behind to edge out Marco Andretti on the
white flag lap to get the win at Indy. That marked the first time in history
that a driver leading going into the white flag lap did not win the race.
Don’t be surprised if we see some late wheeling and dealing again in 2007 as
this is the deepest and most talented field Indy has ever seen. Dixon is the
only driver to exceed the 227mph mark and badly wants to be the number one
man at Ganassi. You can bet that he’ll be right there in the last 20 laps.
Hornish knows what it takes to win and Dan Wheldon has the confidence to
win. This row means trouble for the rest of the pack.
In row three we have Ryan Briscoe, Danica Patrick, and Marco Andretti.
There’s no doubt that Briscoe is the consensus dark horse in this race
showing great value at
20/1 odds, but Andretti is the driver to watch for out of this group. He
flat out blew it last year at Indy and I’m sure he’s been haunted everyday
by that missed opportunity. He shows better value than the aforementioned
top five at
12/1 odds and will be racing with a large chip on his shoulder. If
you’re looking for an Indy 500 winner, you just might want to go with Marco
Andretti out of the third row. He’ll be your best bet for victory lane
showing the type of value that can get you a nice payday.
