The Hawks will be without Drew Tate this year, who had a great career at Iowa even though last year his numbers were down. Now it's Jake Christensen's turn, who is only a sophomore but saw some limited action last year to gain experience. He was one of the top recruits of the 2004 class coming out of Chicago, so big things are expected in his future. The line returns three starters, but this has been Kirk Ferentz's trademark at Iowa so he should have plenty of time, and a nice stable of receivers including Andy Brodell and last year's star freshman Dominique Douglas who led all freshman with 49 catches. The running game is in solid hands once again with both Albert Young and Damian Sims splitting time. Young was considered a top of the line back before last season, expect him to live up to that hype this year.

Defensively there are only three new faces stepping into the starting lineup. The defensive line stays intact, but had a bad year last season and will need to get to the quarterback a little more effectively. Kenny Iwebema and Mitch King have the potential to be absolute beasts, if they go back to working hard. Mike Klinkenborg had 129 tackles last season and he returns at middle linebacker, along with Mike Humpal on the outside. Iowa will replace both safeties, but the experience that Adama Shada and Charles Godfrey have at corner will help shore up the pass defense.

Iowa has had high hopes and failed to live up to them the last two years. This year we think it's going to be the other way around. The schedule treats them well, so ten wins is nowhere near out of the picture even though they aren't talented as that record would show. The tough games are going to come on the road when they go to Wisconsin, Penn State, and Purdue. Missing out on Ohio State and Michigan this year is going to help them contend for a top position in the conference.
