2007 Jacksonville Jaguars Predictions & Season Preview
Get ready for the season with our
2008 Jacksonville Jags Football Predictions & Preview!
The key to our 2007 Jacksonville
Jaguars predictions is the play of Byron Leftwich.
Leftwich has been inconsistent as the starter and has
struggled to stay healthy. If he can have a great
season then this team that ranked third in rushing a
year ago and second in overall defense should have more
than enough to make a deep run into the playoffs.
It seems like everyone has forgotten the Jags in the
midst of the Colts, Chargers, and Pats, but not us.
Watch this team come from under the radar to compete in
2007.

Like we said quarterback play is important to this team,
and Leftwich is in a contract year which should mean a
big year if he wants big money. Jack Del Rio
doesn't have a great relationship with Leftwich after
benching him last season and then wanting Brady Quinn in
the draft, but Leftwich will want to prove himself and
Del Rio wants to keep his job, so expect a professional
relationship. At running back Fred Taylor and
Maurice Jones-Drew provided a great 1-2 punch for the
team. Taylor might not be the primary back this
year as he's getting older and Jones-Drew is the next in
line. Receiver is a big question mark since Reggie
Williams and Matt Jones have been disappointments.
The team needs a speed threat and Dennis Northcutt was
signed in order to provide a deep threat. If
Leftwich is as good as we think he'll be, these three
guys will have solid numbers.
Marcus Stroud and John Henderson are a pair of big bodied,
run stuffers that take help the Jags defense stay tough.
The team could be deep at end if Reggie Hayward can
return to form and Bobby McCray stepped into his place a
year ago and took 10 sacks. There will be
competition and depth at linebacker which should push
everyone to be better. Mike Peterson is a great
tackler who was hurt most of last season, which allowed
some other guys to grow. Daryl Smith and Clint
Ingram will most likely start on the outside. In
the secondary Rashean Mathis, a Pro Bowler in 2006, and
Brian Williams are at corner, while Donovin Darius and
Reggie Nelson will get the nod at safety. Nelson
is a rookie out of Florida who will need to step up
fast. Defense shouldn't be a problem for Del Rio's
squad.
We think the bookmakers are severely under-rating the
talent on the Jags this season and the kind of year they
are going to have. We think the over 9 wins is one
of the best bets of the year since we are expecting
double digits and a division crown. Take the Jags
right on down the line as there is plenty of value in
how the team is going to do in the division, conference,
and a real threat to win the Super Bowl at great odds.
