College Bowl Predictions2007 Liberty Bowl Odds & PredictionsThe 2007 Liberty Bowl between Mississippi State and Central Florida will take place on December 29th at 4:30 PM in Memphis, Tennessee and will be televised on ESPN. This should be an exciting matchup between a team in Mississippi State that came out of nowhere to be competitive in the SEC and a Central Florida team that stomped all over Conference USA this year. If you plan on doing any college bowl betting this year on this game or any other then you need to think about signing up for Jimmy Boyd's college football picks, but if you would rather do it alone then at least get some solid info with this article. If you haven't heard of Kevin Smith, then you should have. This guy may be playing on a non-powerhouse team in a smaller conference, but all he did this year was break Marcus Allen's record for carries in a season with 415, hit the end zone 30 times, and post 2,448 rushing yards. He needs a big game here in order to break Barry Sanders's record and find his name in the history books. Back early in the season when Central Florida stood at 3-3, George O'Leary decided to put the team in the hands of Smith, and all he did was rush for more than 170 yarsd per game as the team won seven straight games to close the year out. The line has been great all year at opening holes and protecting the quarterback, and Kyle Israel has been happy to become a game managing quarterback who completes 67% of his passes when his number is called. The defense got spanked inn early Ocotober when they gave up 116 points in back-to-back games, but since has held opponents to just 21 ppg. They do it by creating turnovers and wreaking havoc, but that might be tough against Mississippi State. The Bulldogs relied on a power running game and a stifling defense on their way to their 7-5 straight up (SU) and 5-6 against the spread (ATS) record. Sylvester Croom had a rough start as a head coach, but this year the team finally seemed to turn the corner as they got to 4-4 in the difficult SEC. The season didn't start out so well for Mississippi State as they were blown out 45-0 against LSU in the season opener. Croom decided to go with true freshman Wesley Carroll early in the season and he showed promise with only six picks in 237 attempts. This is the ultimate team though in NCAA football as the Bulldogs didn't have a single guy make it to the first team of the All-SEC squad. They beat teams by playing together, and these underdogs racked up three wins in the conference over their last four games to beat the odds and make the first bowl game in the Croom era. Be careful if you plan on taking the stronger conference here though, because the Bulldogs did have trouble stopping the run, not exactly good news with Smith hitting the turf against them. Trends: Central Florida is 5-2 ATS over their last seven games. Mississippi State has gone UNDER in four of their last five games.
