2007 LSU Basketball Predictions & Season Preview
There are a lot of people interested in
how Jimmy Boyd's 2007 LSU basketball predictions and
season preview sees this team doing in the SEC after
the strange last two years in Baton Rouge. In 2006
the team stormed through the tournament with the likes
of Tyrus Thomas and Glen "Big Baby" Davis, but last year
without Thomas the team struggled to barely finish above
.500 and faded to only 5-11 in conference play.
Davis is now off to the NBA and the team doesn't really
have any big starts heading into the year. It's
John Brady's hope that the struggles of last year will
leave his team hungry to get back to the tournament, but
we see the Tigers ending up in the NIT.

LSU is going to struggle in the paint. They have the height in incoming
freshman Anthony Randolph and junior Chris Johnson, but neither one of them can
fill out their bodies. Randolph is ready to contribute right away and is
going to be a good rebounder and shot blocker, but he needs to beef up or else
he's going to get pushed around by the other big bodies in the conference.
Johnson may be 6'11" but he's probably the team's best three-point shooter.
He's going to have to make himself known on the inside though and contribute
with rebounding and defense as well. Quintin Thornton is a junior college
transfer that will also see some time in the paint.
The Tigers are going to need to get some productivity out of their guard spot.
The team is experienced with Tasmin Mitchell being the leader. He put up
14.5 ppg to go with nearly six boards per game in 2007 and it'll be his time to
shine this season. He can also go inside and score on smaller opponents.
Garrett Temple and Terry Martin both saw significant minutes last year and will
be counted on to do the same this year. With these three veterans in the
backcourt the Tigers will have the leadership to carry them in the SEC, but a
wild card is Marcus Thornton, a junior college transfer who has plenty of
talent. The problem with this group is that they don't shoot as well
outside as they'll need to.
