Golf fans can finally get excited because the Masters has arrived. This is the first, and arguably the best, Major Championship of the year so if you are a fan of golf and can't get excited for the weekend, there has to be something wrong. The Masters tournament is the only Major Championship played on the same course annually. The real golf fans could walk you through each hole on the course. They may add a little length each season with the new golf equipment and quality of players, but other than that factor everything remains the same. The winner gets the Green Jacket which is the most prestigious award that golf has to offer.

The World's top 50, the top ten on the PGA money list, past champions and selected international players get invitations to this event. The players are not just given a spot in this field, they have to earn their way in. This is the biggest moment of player's careers for new members of the field. If you took a pole to see which tournament each player wants to win in a given year, the Masters Championship would be the one. The weather looks to be nearly perfect for Thursday through Sunday, despite the rainy forecast for Wednesday's practice round.

Tiger Woods is hands down the favorite to win and he should be. His four Green Jackets tie him with Arnold Palmer at the age of thirty, and Jack Nicklaus' six jackets are dangerously within reach. Woods won the WGC-CA Championship the week before last and I can guarantee you he has walked through every shot in his mind. You simply cannot bet against this guy.

Phil Mickelson has to be expected as the next contender in line to dethrone Tiger this weekend. Mickelson has a win already this year and has been quiet over the last few weeks as he prepares for this test. He has to have ghosts looming in his head over last year's U.S. Open debacle on the final hole. He has won this tournament before though so that will be a positive between his ears in a run at another Green Jacket.

Vijay Singh has won twice on tour this year and that has to be a confidence builder heading into The Masters. He has worn a Green Jacket as well in the past so you definitely can't count this veteran out. Singh's ability to hit balls each day for hours is legendary, and allows him to be in prime form for each tournament he enters. His putting is the only aspect of his game that fails him. If the short stick gets going, this stud will be in the Top 5 come Sunday.

Adam Scott and Jim Furyk have to be in the talk for winning this prestigious championship. Scott played well in the Shell Houston Open last weekend and was in the running the whole way. He has all the tools that Tiger Woods does by modeling his swing and can putt with the best of the players in the field. His win at the Player's Championship, known as the "fifth major" has to give him the confidence he needs to contend here. Furyk is a steady grinder with the mental toughness make his way around this torturous course. He putts tremendously well which is the key to winning here. Augusta has the slickest, toughest greens of any course these players face.

A few other names to look for are Charles Howell III, Stuart Appleby and Henrik Stenson. Howell has been making his mark on tour this year and would love to get a victory in his hometown. This could add pressure that is not needed though with the fans following him the whole way. Henrik Stenson won the Accenture Match Play Championship this season and that win against the world's top 64 players will be a confidence builder as well. That tournament is probably tougher than the Masters to win, no matter what any golf fan tells you.

Of course there will be some sleepers that will be there at the end Sunday. These are just the guys that I will be looking for come Sunday. They all have some kind of experience winning big tournaments and that will be a big boost between the ears of all these players. Tiger has to be my pick to win but deep down inside I will be rooting for Mickelson. The guy has been through so much in his career and I admire the fact that he takes chances. Go Phil in 2007!
