2007 Miami Basketball Predictions & Season Preview
After a horrible season last year, things don't look much
better in Jimmy Boyd's 2007 Miami basketball
predictions and season preview article. The
team racked up the second-most losses in the program's
history by going 12-20 and finished last in the
conference with their 4-12 record. Now the team
has lost starting point guard Denis Clemente just to add
to the misery. However, there are a few people who
think things aren't looking all that bad since the team
returns eleven players from a year ago, including their
top-two leading scorers. Miami did have a decent
run in the ACC tournament and Anthony King returns
unexpectedly after having sustained serious injuries a
year ago.

Anthony King was granted an extra year of eligibility by the
NCAA after being seriously hurt a year ago and missing all but eight games.
He is a good shot-blocker and rebounder who will at least give the Hurricanes a
presence in the paint. The center and power forward positions are pretty
deep at Miami, with Dwayne Collins, who led the ACC in offensive rebounds last
year as a freshman, and Jimmy Graham. Collins has a huge wingspan and a
great work ethic that enables him to dominate the glass, and this guy could be
poised for a breakout season. Graham is a stacked physical beast who
seemed to get better as the season progressed and could be ready to step up this
year. Brian Asbury will hold down the small forward spot and if he can
find his outside shot, he should put up big numbers after scoring nearly 12
points per game as a sophomore.
Jack McClinton is the leader in the backcourt and the Canes will
need to find someone to play point so he can resume his role as the scorer.
He was 10th in the ACC with 16.7 ppg a year ago and led the conference in
3-pointers made and in free throw percentage. James Dews might be the
other starter as he showed he could defend with the best of them last year and
he seems to really be coming into his own on the offensive end. He isn't a
point guard though, so coach Frank Haith will be looking for either Lance Hurdle
or Edwin Rios to step up and run the offense.
We aren't expecting much out of the Hurricanes this season, but
most likely neither will the sportsbooks as
you'll see some big underdogs lines on this team when checking out the
college basketball odds. If
you don't want to put the work in to beat the daily lines, then you should think
